Exaggeration in the books
Nolan:- One of the things that always struck me in Sven`s books is the way he exaggerates things, especially numbers. As has been said before, it would be unlikely that the 27th (Penal) Panzer Rgt would have had any vehicles better than pzkpf III`s or IV`s. Yet Sven constantly says that they have Tigers and Panthers. First of all, for the Tigers, I have a list of all the Tiger Is made (1400 of them) and to which unit they were posted. No 27th Pz Rgt. Secondly, SH lists the Tiger losses as huge (200-600) per battle...Totally impossible as I have seen how many Tigers where destroyed each month (30-40). In many other places in the books, the losses in men and material are quite simply impossible.
Still, don`t let me destract you from the books themselves, that are brilliant and seem to be a reasonably accurate rendition of the Second World War.
Dan:- Actually, I was just thinking about this and I reckon that completely overestimating losses etc is more authentic? You see, if he gave accurate figures it would look like he`d read about them in a history book - but someone on the ground, looking round and seeing burnt out wrecks of tanks everywhere, with maybe a Tiger or two in amongst them, will probably report that there was definately 600 Tigers destroyed that very afternoon!
It`s only when we know that there were only 1400 Tigers to start off with that we doubt the figures. Or am I talking complete bollocks?

27.Panzer-Regiment
History
I.Abt. formed on 10 Nov 38 with four Kp. as independent Heerestruppen. I.Abt. Renamed II./Pz.Rgt.31 on 24 Nov 38. Pz.Rgt.27 formed on 1 Oct 40 with three Abt. each with two light and one med Kp. and assigned to 19.Pz.Div. III.Abt. disbanded on 10 Aug 41. I.Abt. disbanded on 31 Mar 42. II.Abt. renamed I./Pz.Rgt.27 on 1 Apr 42. New II.Abt. formed from renamed Pz.Abt.138 on 27 Mar 43. I.Abt. converted to Panthers on 15 Oct 43.
